"My wife and I decided we wanted to move to Portland a few years ago, and decided to start looking at houses to get a feel for the market. We originally worked with an agent recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, she did not really pay attention to what we were looking for, and had lined up a series of homes for us to look at that were not really what we wanted. Because of this we just started contacting the sellers of homes and arranging to meet them.
It was at this point we met Marc. Other agents we spoke with encouraged us to buy right away, saying the market had bottomed out. We could tell immediately that Marc was honest and had our best interest in mind. When it would have been to Marc's benefit to encourage us to purchase right away, he instead suggested we get to know the different neighborhoods in Portland and take our time to be certain we find a home and neighborhood we love. Marc excels at listening to the needs and wants of his clients. He doesn't have an agenda outside of what is in the buyer's best interest. Because of this, we kept Marc's contact information and got in touch with him on subsequent visits to Portland.
We made four or five different visits to Portland to look at houses, and on each and every visit Marc was helpful, patient and attentive to our thoughts about what we were looking for. On several of our visits we did not have as much time as we would have liked to have had, but Marc made the most of our time. He would line up incredibly efficient home tours, winding though one neighborhood and then another.
In between each of our visits, Marc would send us updated information on homes being listed. He would also go visit homes on the market on our behalf, so he could tell us firsthand what he thought of them.
Another way Marc impressed us was with his patience as three offers we made fell through for various reasons. We were certain he would want us to find a new agent to work with after all the work he had done, and still had yet to see a commission. But Marc stuck with us until we found just the right home in a neighborhood that was perfect for us.
At every step along the way, Marc was there, looking out for our best interest. He gave us great advice in every stage of the process, keeping us grounded and guiding our decisions in ways that was to our benefit. Laurel and I have worked with many different agents over the years, and Marc's professionalism is the best we have encountered. Every agent should strive to acquire his level of integrity, competence, knowledge, and professionalism.
